Postdoctoral Researcher in Natural Language Processing / Machine Learning
DMIR Research Group, Computer Science Institut
Hubland Campus (South), Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg, Germany
The DMIR Research Group is a highly interdisciplinary group of researchers led by Prof. Andreas Hotho focusing on novel methods in the areas of machine learning and artificial intelligence. We are mainly focusing on natural language processing and the semantic web but also work on projects aimed at modeling and predicting environmental aspects. For more information such as a list of projects as well as an overview of recent publications, please see:
The DMIR group at the University of Würzburg is looking for a highly motivated candidate to join the DMIR Research group to develop and research novel methods at the intersection of natural language processing and machine learning. The goal is to solve tasks arising in a broad range of areas starting from digital humanities over semantic web to social media together with computational linguists, social or literature scientists, and physicists.
The tasks connected with the position are the following:
Perform fundamental and applied research in the areas of NLP and ML
Actively participate in the research activities of the "Data Mining and Information Retrieval" (DMIR) group
Organize research with a highly motivated team of Ph.D. students
Actively contribute to the design and initiation of new research projects and ideas
Present research results at top international workshops and conferences, exhibits, and project meetings
Co-author articles for publication in leading peer-reviewed journals and top conferences
If you are excited about an opportunity to work, research, and learn in an interdisciplinary environment with computer scientists and mathematicians, then please contact us.
The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Data Mining or related areas with focus on natural language processing, computational linguistics or a closely-related field. The ability of approaching research problems with a system view, of working in a multidisciplinary team environment, problem solving skills and high creativity are very welcome. The following aspects are important factors:
Proven ability to develop research independently
Willingness to share expertise and learn from others
A strong publication record
Experience in various fields of machine learning, data mining and related areas are expected
Experience in natural language processing tasks and related areas are excepted
Experience in applying and developing neural networks is a strong plus
The position is a limited-term contract from the earliest possible date. Maximum runtime is 6 years after Ph.D. Salary is based on TVL. There is the typical teaching load associated with this position. The possibility for habilitation is given. Please note that we will support you in the acquisition of projects and/or third-party funding.
